Cholesterol Lowering Formula

Cholesterol Formula contains two main ingredients that have been proven in clinical trials to lower cholesterol. They are policosanol and guggulipid.

For example, in one study 205 patients reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol by an average of 26 percent and triglycerides by 22.6 percent. They used a supplement of 500 mg of gugulipid for 12 weeks with no change in diet or lifestyle.

Policosanol on the other hand not only lowers cholesterol, but it does so better than drugs. In one study it was compared with Mevacor (a cholesterol lowering drug).

Policosanol lowered total cholesterol by 14.2 percent, whereas Mevacor only 14 percent. It also lowered bad cholesterol (LDL) by 20.4 percent as compared to 16.8 percent with Mevacor. It even increased good (HDL) cholesterol by 7.5 percent, whereas there was no change with Mevacor.

In another study, policosanol was compared with the cholesterol drug, pravachol. The table below sums up the results of this study.

Evidence of Efficacy

Side Effects

In the dozens of clinical trials on two of the main ingredients with thousands of subjects negative side effects were very rare.

There are two likely side effects:

Weight Loss: A common theme in many of the clinical trials and studies of policosanol was that the participants lost weight. Guggulipid has also been used for thousands of years in India and Asia to help normalize weight.

Acne: Guggulipid has been shown in clinical trials to outperform tetracycline in the natural effective treatment of acne without side effects. Reference: Thappa DM, Dogra J. Nodulocystic acne: oral gugulipid versus tetracycline. J Dermatol 1994;21(10):729-31.

These are two safe side effects that most people can happily live with!

Benefits without lifestyle changes

The benefits that can be expected from this formula do not anticipate any change in lifestyle. Of course we always advocate that everyone should continually strive to improve their diet, exercise more and discontinue dangerous habits... but that is for the individual to decide.

We have not dealt with lifestyle changes or other dietary recommendations that may help in lowering your cholesterol and improving your overall heart health. This is an entirely separate issue which we cover in a separate report which can be found in our Special Report section. However, you should be aware that a reduction in the intake of dietary cholesterol is very rarely sufficient to lower cholesterol to any significant extent. This is because the around 80% of blood cholesterol is manufactured by the liver.

Compare the Cholesterol Lowering Efficacy of XTEND-LIFE with the modern cholesterol lowering drugs known as 'STATINS'

The following table is a summary of just one of many studies comparing the efficacy of a statin drug against just ONE of the ingredients in the XTEND-LIFE formula... POLICOSANOL. There are many clinical trials and studies comparing this substance against statin drugs. The results are consistent with the study below irrespective of the statin brand being compared.

Although XTEND-LIFE Cholesterol Formula contains a 'cocktail' of specialty ingredients, it does contain 10mgs per serving of Policosanol which was the standard dose for the majority of the trials and studies.

WARNING: There are many products currently in the market place claiming to use 'policosanol' but many in fact are using 'octacosanol' which is an incomplete form of policosanol. Octacosanol will NOT give the results outlined in these clinical trials. The results apply ONLY to the genuine policosanol extracted from sugar cane wax. Only the genuine policosanol which is produced in Cuba has been used in these clinical trials. Another substance which is extracted from Bees Wax is also referred to as Policosanol or Polycosanol, but it is not the same substance. The genuine Policosanol costs more than 20 times that of Octacosanol. Only the genuine policosanol is used in the XTEND-LIFE formula.

Study Comparing Policosanol with a Statin Drug In this study patients were first put on a 6 week cholesterol lowering diet. Each group was given daily either 20mgs of Lovastatin (Mevacor) or 10mgs of Policosanol for 12 weeks. The results are listed below:   Lovastatin 20mg Policosanol 10mg Total Blood Cholesterol - reduced 14.0% 14.2% LDL Cholesterol - reduced 16.8% 20.4% HDL (good) Cholesterol - raised no change 7.5% LDL to HDL Ratio - reduced 14.9% 23.7%
